A second round of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding occurred over portions of NE Miami-Dade County on June 12th. An additional 8-15 inches of rain fell on top of the rain that occurred the previous day. Storm surveys after the event indicated water marks as high as 2-3 feet in Aventura on buildings and power poles, and in excess of 12 inches in North Miami. ||For both June 11th and 12th events, a total of 34 people required evacuation, mostly from vehicles stalled in deep flood waters. Damage assessments resulted in 160 structures with major damage, and 81 with minor damage across Miami-Dade County. ||A maximum 2-day rainfall total of 20 was recorded in Sunny Isles Beach, with 10-20 inches from Miami Shores and Miami Beach to North Miami and Aventura. ||Total damage estimate indicated in this event is the combined total of this event and the one from June 11th.
Severe flooding occurred over large parts of eastern metro Miami-Dade County beginning during the evening hours of October 30th and continuing well into the next day. The area of heavy rain began over southern sections of the flood area, including Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay and Key Biscayne around 830 PM EDT and spread north to the Pinecrest, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove areas around 10 PM EDT, and from city of Miami to North Bay Village shortly after midnight. Numerous roads were under deep water and reports of dozens of homes with water intrusion were received across this entire area. ||Rainfall amounts were in the 6 to 10 inch range across this area, virtually all of it falling in less than 12 hours. Highest rainfall estimates were in Coconut Grove where up to 12 inches or more may have fallen, causing water to pond to as high as 4 feet in a few areas. A Coral Gables PD official deemed this to be the most flooding he's ever seen in the area. The western half of Key Biscayne was under water.
The City of Miami Police Department reported flooding across multiple roadways in downtown Miami due to heavy rainfall in the area. Several cars were stranded along secondary streets near I-395 near Biscayne Boulevard. Photo evidence on social media showed stalled cars with water to the top of their tires. Measured rainfall in the area was between 3-5 inches, most of it falling in 4 hours or less.
