Charlotte County was included in a Presidential Major Disaster declaration due mainly to the severe flooding associated with Tropical Storm Michael. There was widespread flash flooding across the county with numerous roads closed and damaged. Two people lost their lives after being swept off a bridge into floodwaters. The fatalities occurred after a car stranded on a Mt. Harmony Road bridge around 728 PM local Thursday. The Charlotte County Sheriff's office stated that the vehicle originally had three occupants who were said to be clinging to the bridge railings. A 17-year-old male was able to be rescued, while the two other adults, one male the other female were swept away in the flood waters.
A National Weather Service survey team inspected storm damage along the western end of Green View Road approximately 1.6 miles south southwest of Chandlers Fork and 3.8 miles north of Randolph. The team concluded that the damage was from an EF-1 tornado with maximum wind gusts around 95 mph. The tornado briefly touched down and primarily affected one private residence along Green View Road. Significant roof damage along with glass doors and windows were broken on the home. A few trees and power lines were also damaged along Green View Road before the tornado lifted.
Thunderstorm winds blew down 50 to 75 trees across the county. The hardest hit region was around Aspen. One of the trees fell onto a vehicle in Aspen. Another tree fell on a vehicle in the Keysville. Damage values are estimated.
