Flash Flood in Dallas County, Texas

Heavy rains caused many road closures, high water rescues, and evacuations of homes and businesses throughout the afternoon and evening. Water was reportedly five feet high in some homes, causing significant damage. Water rose four feet high in the lower level of the Renaissance Hotel on Stemmons Freeway near Wycliff Avenue. Dallas police received more than 240 calls about people in danger from the flood waters in four hours. A woman was swept away in Turtle Creek by Wycliff Avenue after she abandoned her car due to rapidly rising flood waters. Her body was recovered later that night nearly a mile from were she was swept away.

Numerous streets were closed due to high water after four to six inches of rain fell across the county, including Loop 12 near White Rock Lake. Voluntary evacuations were in place for residents of DeSoto near Ten Mile Creek which overflowed its banks for the second time in less than four years. A total of sixteen roads were closed in the area. Another rescue was needed after a van stalled in high water near Lawnview Avenue and Military Parkway. There was widespread flooding in Lancaster with numerous homes flooded. Lancaster's fire department performed five high water rescues. Two teenagers were playing near a creek near Interstate 635 and Bruton Road when one of them was swept into the water and then into a drainage pipe. His body was recovered the next day.

Emergency management and media reports high water rose quickly near the intersection of Northwest Highway / Loop 12 / and US 114 in the eastern sections of the city of Irving. Several cars were stranded in this area, especially near the intersection of California Crossing and Northwest Highway. Multiple high water rescues were performed, and one flash flood death occurred at this location.
