Several roads throughout Middleburgh were closed or washed out due to flash flooding. Nearly 450 children at a school were stranded due to the flooding, as several small streams overflowed their banks. Much of Route 145 (Main Street) was closed. Debris clogged small streams and many basements had water in them.
Numerous roads were closed across Schoharie County due to flash flooding. These included, but were not limited to, Creek Road to Esperance and to the Montgomery County line, Treadlemire Road to Middleburgh, Junction Road, Zicha Road, Sanatarium Road to Esperance and Schoharie, Benninger Road, Barton Hill Road, Sheldon Road, and portions of Route 30.
The Schoharie Creek at Prattsville rose above flood stage during the morning hours on December 18, reaching moderate flood stage during the late morning hours before falling below flood stage by the afternoon hours. This resulted in water overflowing onto State Route 23 and flooding of basements and lowlands.
