A cold front in southern New York moved slowly south across the area during the late afternoon and evening hours on the 26th, producing thunderstorms with gusty winds, small hail, and heavy rain. Nickel size hail was reported in Robbinsville, NJ at 1745EST.
A severe thunderstorm inflicted considerable damage onto Hopewell Borough. Numerous trees were uprooted. The "strewn" trees caused considerable damage to cars and homes. At least a dozen cars were totaled. About 22,000 Jersey Central Power and Light Customers lost power.
