Residents were evacuated along the Maurice River in Vineland and Millville. The Cohansey River also flooded in the western part of the county. The combination of flooding rains and tropical storm force wind gusts closed fifty roadways in the county.||For the second time within the month, the Maurice River at Norma had major flooding and set the second highest crest on record. The river at the Norma gage was above its 4 foot flood stage from 1115 p.m. EDT on the 27th through 1030 a.m. EDT on September 2nd. It crested at 7.72 feet at 400 p.m. EDT on the 29th.||Event rainfall totals included 7.27 inches in Upper Deerfield Township, 7.09 inches in Bridgeton and 6.51 inches in Greenwich Township.
About 125 people were evacuated from the Cedar Crest Mobile Home Park in Vineland on the 15th after the Blackwater Branch Creek flooded. Most were able to return on the 16th. Another eight homes were flooded in Vineland near the Maurice River. Landis Avenue (New Jersey State Route 56) was closed between Rosenhayn and Vineland because of severe damage to the Landis Avenue Bridge at Rainbow Lake. Four roads were closed due to flooding in Maurice River Township. The Petticoat Stream flooded basements in Millville. Weymouth Road near the Willow Grove Lake near Newfield was closed to traffic out of fear of a compromised spillway. The heavy rain damaged farm fields, submerged seeds and young lettuce.|The Maurice River at Norma was above its 4 foot flood stage from 522 a.m. EDT on the 16th through 900 p.m. EDT on the 20th. It crested at 5.83 feet at 900 p.m. EDT on the 18th.|Precipitation totals included 5.56 inches in Upper Deerfield, 4.93 inches in Vineland, 4.00 inches in Newport, 3.00 inches in Bridgeton, 2.75 inches in Shiloh, and 2.50 inches in Leesburg. |
Thunderstorms with torrential downpours caused creek and poor drainage flash flooding in Millville. Hardest hit were homes along Rhonda Drive near the White Marsh Run. Three homes suffered collapsed basement walls. One woman was injured when the basement walls collapsed and she became trapped. The high water mark on some homes reached two feet above their ground level and evacuations occurred. Elsewhere in Millville, numerous vehicles were stranded along New Jersey State Route 47.||Event precipitation totals included 8.94 inches in Millville, 8.60 inches in Newport, 6.51 inches in Vineland, 5.43 inches in Fairfield Township, 4.62 inches in Upper Deerfield and 4.51 inches in Bridgeton.
