A 24 foot long sailboat capsized during a severe thunderstorm on the Delaware River. The boat set sail from Pyne Poynt Marina in Camden. One person on board drowned when he became entangled in the lines and was submerged beneath the capsized boat. (M53O)
The Cooper River at Haddonfield had major flooding and its second highest crest on record, second only to July 12, 2004. The river was above its 2.8 foot flood stage from 1034 p.m. EDT on the 27th through 700 p.m. EDT on the 28th. It crested at 5.89 feet at 530 a.m. EDT on the 28th. The Big Timber Creek also flooded along the border with Gloucester County. Event rainfall totals included 6.23 inches in Stratford, 4.51 inches in Berlin Township, 4.00 inches in Haddon Heights, and 3.51 inches in Winslow Township.
The heavy rain caused vehicles to become stranded in Camden. In Collingswood, U.S. Route 130 was closed in three places. New Jersey State Routes 45 and 70 were flooded. Flooding along the Great Harbor River closed roadways in Winslow Township.|The Great Egg Harbor River at Folsom (Atlantic County) was above its 6 foot flood stage from 210 p.m. EDT on the 16th through 100 a.m. EDT on the 20th. It crested at 8.03 feet at 1045 p.m. EDT on the 17th. The Cooper River at Haddonfield was above its 2.8 foot flood stage from 932 a.m. EDT on the 15th through 455 p.m. EDT on the 16th. It crested at 4.66 feet at 418 a.m. EDT on the 16th.|Precipitation totals included 6.29 inches in Pennsauken and 4.26 inches in Blackwood.|
