Lightning strikes resulted in house fires in Maple Shade and Medford Townships. No serious injuries were reported. In Maple Shade, lightning struck a home on Stiles Avenue. The ensuing fire damaged two rooms before it was extinguished. In Medford Township, the ensuing fire after the lightning struck burned a Highwood Court home to the ground. A firefighter hurt his hand battling the blaze. No one was home at the time.
A lightning strike and ensuing fire left several people displaced from their homes in a condominium complex on Friday night on Tarnbrook Drive in Mount Laurel Township. Eight units were declared uninhabitable after the blaze, which was controlled in less than an hour. Four nearby townships assisted in battling the blaze. Lightning struck the upper part of the building and started a roof fire. Other condominium units suffered fire, smoke and water damage.
