A line of severe thunderstorms with 60-80mph winds moved through Lauderdale County on the afternoon of May 4th. These winds resulted in a swath of extensive damage across the county with numerous trees and power lines downed. In addition, at least 50 homes received damage and the roof of an apartment complex was blown off. The ASOS at Meridian Key Field measured a 61mph gust while the ASOS at Naval Meridian measured a 65mph gust.
An intense straight line wind event occurred across the northern portion of Lauderdale County. Hundreds of trees were blown down. Some trees damaged homes and downed many power lines. Wind gusts were between 90 and 100 mph.
A swath of wind damage occurred across Lauderdale County beginning with a few chicken houses that were damaged in Meehan by the wind. Around that same time a tree was downed along Mississippi Highway 493 just south of Mississippi Highway 16, and the high winds blew some shingles off a roof and knocked a basketball goal over in Collinsville. Between 1:30pm and 1:45pm a wall of a convenience store was collapsed at I-20 and 22nd Ave, trees and power lines were blown down on Myrtle Drive, a couple houses were damaged on Minnow Bucket Road, and trees were blown down near exit 152 near the I-20 and I-59 intersection.
