A tornado touched down along an intermittent path approximately 4 miles long on the northwest side of Slidell. A NWS ground survey indicated that minor damage occurred to the south of US Highway 190 and near Centennial Park subdivision. The tornado continued to track north-northeast with the greatest damage, F2 intensity, occurring just southwest of the airport. The tornado damaged about 152 houses in the Bel Air subdivision off Airport Road with nine of the homes being declared uninhabitable. Four people received injuries during the storm and were treated at an area hospital and released. A wind gust of 70 mph (61 knots) was recorded at the automated weather equipment (ASOS) at the Slidell Airport.
Damage began at Birtrue Road east of Louisiana Highway 40. The tornado then continued eastward producing EF2 damage to homes on Birtue and Thornhill Roads. EF3 damage was observed near the intersection of Jenkins Cemetery Road and Louisiana Highway 40. Two homes had extensive damage with 90 percent of their roofs ripped off and collapse of some exterior walls. Three homes suffered significant damage, as well as 10 to 15 un-anchored mobile homes.
A tornado touched down near Pearl Drive and Azalea Lane and proceeded north-northeast for approximately 2 miles to near Davis Landing Road. Approximately 30 homes were damaged in Lake Village Subdivision. Some homes had portions of roofing deck removed. Other damage occurred near Lewis Stables…with one home sustaining a total roof loss, with a partial roof loss of another home. The tornado was rated at the lower end of the EF2 range.
