Tornado in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana

A waterspout moved onshore as a multi vortex tornado in Port Fourchon resulting in damage to approximately 12 structures, including several port buildings and three businesses. A few buildings sustained significant damage. Two persons suffered minor injuries. Several hundred vehicles were damage either by flying debris, or with windows blown out. Approximately one mile of power lines were downed along Louisiana Highway 3090 which leads to Port Fourchon.

A weak tornado touched down in the Leeville area. Several trailers were overturned and three occupants of the trailers were injured. In addition, power lines were blown down, a couple of recreational boats were overturned in a marina, and seven shrimp boats broke loose from their moorings.

The EF-1 tornado touched down near the intersection of Old Safari Heights and Louisiana Highway 3235, where it tore the roof off of a business housed in a double-wide manufactured home. It also tore fascia off of a drive-in restaurant. It turned 2 vehicles in the parking lot and tossed one small car approximately 15 feet into a field. From there it moved east-northeast toward Main Street. As it approached Main Street, it broke several large limbs from hardwood trees, and tore the car port off of a home. Metal roof covering was also peeled back from a home. As the tornado moved across Bayou Lafourche, it turned more toward the northeast and caused shingle damage to one home. It then turned more toward the southeast, and caused damage to trees and a few power poles. The storm lifted as it neared the South Lafourche High School Football Stadium. Maximum winds were estimated at 100 mph, with a path length near 1 mile and a path width of 30 yards.
