Straight-line thunderstorm winds from a downburst flattened 4 brand new chicken houses on East Damascus Road. About a mile north a mobile home was ripped from its foundation and destroyed. The 4 mile long damage path began just north of highway 53 and moved north-northeastward to near the Pickens county line. Numerous trees were downed along the path. Winds were estimated at 60 to 100 mph.
The Gordon County Emergency Management Director reported the roof was blown off a commercial building in Calhoun. Two other structures suffered major damage while 20 others sustained minor damage. Several trees and power lines were also down in the area, especially near Resaca.
Thunderstorm winds destroyed a chicken house and killed nearly 35,000 chickens on Mountain Loop Road in the town of Sugar Valley. Also, approximately two acres of pines trees were downed in the Johns Mountain Wildlife Area by thunderstorm winds.
