Thunderstorm winds downed trees and wires. Some trees and wires fell on roads closing them. Trees and wires also came down in Smithfield and Sheshequin. In Sheshequin, a 200-year old, 3 feet in diameter oak tree fell on two pickup trucks, a car and a garage. The trucks were crushed. In Smithfield a tree fell on a house doing extensive damage to a porch and part of the main house. At Lake Wesauking in Wysox township, several trees fell onto homes.
Several strong downbursts with winds estimated at 80 to 90 mph tore parts of three old barn roofs and toppled a corn crib. Some roofing material was removed from at least two homes and several other out building. Many trees were uprooted (all toward the north), but the ground was saturated. Each area of damage was no wider than 50 to 100 feet. No injuries were reported.
Numerous trees fell along Route 706 near Stevensville in southern Stevens Township. Damage continued east over Clapper Hill Road where approximately 100 trees were sheared off along the hillside. Nearby along another hillside numerous trees were sheared off. A gas tank was thrown through a field. Eyewitness report along with a storm survey show damage was consistent with a microburst.
