This large supercell thunderstorm moved out of Southeast Smith county and tracked east-southeast through the Soso Community and then through the city of Laurel before dissipating. This storm produced a swath of golf ball to baseball sized hail. Many homes and vehicles were damaged from the large hail.
Large hail of golf ball size and larger fell in a swath from the Calhoun community southeast across parts of Laurel, Glade, and Tuckers Crossing. Several car rear windows were busted out at a gas station on the southwest side of Laurel. The largest hailstone reported was from Tuckers Crossing, where the hailstone was placed next to a McDonald's dipping sauce packet and thus determined to have a diameter of near 2.5 inches.
A swath of quarter to golf ball sized hail fell as a supercell thunderstorm tracked northeast across a large portion of Jones County. The storm entered the county about 6 miles west of Moselle and tracked northeast to a few miles east of Laurel. The largest hail occurred between Ellisville and Tuckers Crossing.
