Slow moving training thunderstorms containing very heavy rain produced up to 2.00 to 3.00 inches of rain in several hours. The heavy rains contributed to flash flooding which washed out a portion of a railbed causing a shutdown of the railroad line between Van Buren and Grand Isle. Damages to the railbed were estimated at up to $75,000 dollars. The flash flooding also caused $5,000 dollars of damage to a farm due to a flooded garage…a road washout…destroyed fencing and half an acre of ruined crops on the property.
Thunderstorms producing rainfall rates of 1.00 to 2.00 inches per hour caused flash flooding. The flash flooding produced minor damage at the intersection of Baird Road and Powers Road…with debris from the shoulder also washed onto Powers Road.
Slow moving thunderstorms containing very heavy rain produced localized rainfall totals of up to 3.00 to 4.50 inches in 1 to 2 hours. These rains produced flash flooding with water reported across portions of Golden Ridge and Gallison Roads near the town of Sherman.
