Moderate to severe flooding affected a large portion of metro Palm Beach County west of the Florida Turnpike. Hardest hit communities include The Acreage, Royal Palm Beach, Loxahatchee and Wellington. Canals were overtopped and communities were stranded by high water for several days after the rains stopped. Few homes suffered water damage, but major damage was sustained to infrastructure, including roads and water management structures. ||Rainfall amounts as high as 16 inches were measured in Royal Palm Beach and Loxahatchee, with estimates in excess of 18 inches in a two-day period.
Torrential rainfall from a nearly stationary line of thunderstorms dropped an estimated 10 to 15 inches of rain, most of it falling within a two hour period, in the Highland Pines Subdivision in Palm Beach Gardens. Initially, a South Florida Water Management gage measured 31 inches of rain, but subsequent reanalysis indicated the gage reading was about 50% too high. A total of 136 buildings suffered flood damage as well as numerous vehicles. Streets were closed and I-95 was partially closed by a large sinkhole.
A nearly stationary line of thunderstorms caused very heavy rains to occur over the course of about seven hours in the town of Jupiter. Radar estimates and unofficial measurements were received of 6 to 10 inches of rain. Law enforcement and city/county officials reported 45 housing and business units receiving flooding, most of it minor. The thunderstorms ended around midnight Tuesday evening but the flooding of homes continued until early Wednesday morning.||Flooding also occurred just south of Jupiter in Juno Beach, but this flooding was confined to roadways with no intrusion into structures.
