A tree was blown down onto 2 cars on Roosevelt Blvd. One 25 yr old male driving one of the cars was killed instantly when the large tree fell onto his vehicle. Images broadcast by media suggested the tree base may have been rotted and impacted by termites. This did not appear to be a healthy tree.
The Jacksonville Port Authority reported two large 125 foot tall container ship cranes collapsed at Blount Island Marine Terminal. Each container was 950 tons. A squall line was moving across the area when the collapsed occurred. The KJAX Doppler radar indicated 45 to 50 knot velocities at approximately 600 feet msl. Each crane cost $6 million.
The Duval county 911 call center reported power line wires down on a home at 6545 brandemere rd north in Arlington. Multiple weather stations in the Arlington and Mayport areas reported gusts ranging from 50 to 56 mph. Pea size hail was also reported by the broadcast media in the Arlington area at Grove Park neighborhood, near Hartsfield and Ft Caroline road and along Safeshelter Drive South.
