Hail up to 2.5 inch diameter was reported off of Old Monrovia Road and Research Park Blvd. in the Westview subdivision. Several stones were spherical at 1.5 inch diameter while others were oblong and larger up to 2.5 inches.
This thunderstorm dropped hail in the city of Madison and moved east along I-565 toward Huntsville. Hail was reported throughout the city of Huntsville, from the UAH campus to the downtown area mainly along and south of I-565.
Thunderstorm wind that gusted to 58 mph took the roof off the fire department building located at the Huntsville International Airport. There were other reports from around the county of a few trees falling in the wind. At one point about 1,500 customers were without electrical power due primarily to trees falling on lines and lightning. Three-quarter inch hail was reported at Chase just east of Huntsville.
