Lightning is believed to be the cause of a fire at a natural gas condensate storage tank owned by Dominion Energy Transmission, Inc. The million gallon tank was holding roughly 640,000 gallons of fuel, and took about 12 hours to extinguish. The community of Bens Run was evacuated for a time due to concerns of explosion.
Numerous trees and large branches were blown down in scattered locations throughout the county. One house had major damage and 2 others had minor damage. Electric was lost to around 11,500 customers in the county. The public infrastructure damage assessment was around $150,000.
Streams flooded, closed, and damaged roads. One example, was County Route 7/5 or Mahaley Hollow Road. The approach to a bridge over Little Sancho Creek was washed out. The creek had crested over the top of the bridge. The road along Jefferson Run had its foundation undermined in places. A house was flooded off of Route 18 along Indian Creek. It was the first day of the new school year for the county. Yet, classes were canceled since many bus routes were flooded.
