What the reports say
Written by National Weather Service staff at the time of the event · public domain
Eight covered boat slips were destroyed at Walden's Marina. Boat slip was damaged at Norview Marina, and the roof was blown off the covered boat slips at Walden's and thrown back towards the river. Also, an automobile was crushed under the roof and it was reported that a boater jumped overboard to escape the collapsing timbers.
Thunderstorm winds caused damage at a local marina, lifting the roof off of a boat house and dropping it on several nearby boats. After a review of the radar data, photographs of the damage, and in consultation with the local Emergency Manager, the National Weather Service concluded that the damage that occurred was caused by straight line winds.
High winds blew down trees that fell on a bus during a church picnic. The picnicgoers saw the storm coming and ran into the bus for shelter. The bus incurred only minor damage which included a broken window and dented roof. No one was injured.
