Thunderstorms developed across southwest Virginia during the afternoon hours on the 10th and persisted into the evening hours. Severe thunderstorms produced hail up to golf ball-size and damaging winds. Dime-size hail covered the ground 10 miles east of Wytheville. Nickel-size hail covered the ground one mile south of Buena Vista and 2.5 miles south of Forks of Buffalo. Thunderstorm winds knocked down 16 to 18 inch diameter trees four miles west of Forks of Buffalo.
