The rain maximum came out of southern Logan County and rain east, across northern portions of Wyoming County. The maximum rain amount in the 3.5 to 4 inch range was likely for northern Wyoming County. This included portions of Huff Creek, Clear Fork including its Trace Fork, and Laurel Fork. Oceana measured 3.5 inches. Pineville had 2.4 inches. Flood water from Huff Creek surrounded an elderly couple's home in Cyclone. The 71 year old husband went to his flooded basement to check on a water pump, which ran on gasoline. Apparently, he fell unconscious from the exhaust fumes and drowned. His wife was also overcome, but was rescued and revived. The lower sections of Oceans were flooded.Damage assessment had 5 homes destroyed in Wyoming County, plus 6 more homes with major damage.
Streams such as Cub Creek, Huff Creek, and Indian Creek flooded. The area around Hanover was hard hit. The preliminary damage assessment for the county, counted 4 single family homes and 4 mobile homes destroyed. Major damage occurred to 36 single family homes and 1 mobile home.
Rains of 3 to 4 inches fell in 24 hours. A spotter in Cyclone reported 2 inches in 2 hours around 0000E. Some of the streams affected include Huff Creek, Clear Fork, Laurel Fork, Cabin Creek, Milam Fork, and Rockcastle Creek. Communities such as Oceana, Glen Fork, Matheny, Jesse, McGraws, plus Twin Falls State Park were affected. American Red Cross reported 3 single family homes with major damage, 8 homes with minor damage, 5 mobile homes destroyed. Ten to 15 businesses in Mullens had major damage. Private bridges were washed out.
