Thunderstorm winds blew trees down all across the City of Martinsville. One tree fell on an occupied airport cab from Greensboro, NC. The car was totaled, however the male driver escaped only with a concussion. There were no passengers. Power lines were also brought down across the city.
Numerous roads were flooded across the City of Martinsville and several homes were flooded. The roof of a department store partially collapsed due to the weight of water. A local state of emergency was declared by the City Council in the aftermath due to the massive cleanup required. Local sources stated that 4 to 5 inches of rain fell in approximately one hour.
Martinsville City was included as part of the Presidential Major Disaster declaration with significant damage to roads and other structures. The time of occurrence is based on the highest runoff from the CREST hydrologic model.
