Tornado initially touched down along Homlestown Road, then moved along Bruington Road where a home was destroyed and others were damaged just west of Millers Tavern. The tornado then crossed Highway 360 and moved into Essex county.
Tornado made a discontinuous path in an area from near the West Point/King and Queen County Airport northeastward to near Shacklefords. Most significant damage occurred at the airport where four planes were overturned. Two were heavily damaged, and two were destroyed. Major damage was inflicted to the airport hangar. The tornado moved northeastward across rural/heavily wooded areas causing damage to the tops of trees, downing a few power lines and downing a few trees in the Shacklefords area before lifting.
F1 tornado came through an area of trees west of Route 14 at treetop and down to ground-level as it hit a farm. The tornado uprooted large trees, demolished two concrete buildings and severely damaged two others, taking off the roofs and damaging the foundations. Trees snapped and bark stripped.
