A line of severe thunderstorms crossed Halifax County and produced damaging straight-line winds. The most significant damage occurred along Old Grubby Road, where a family was displaced after their home was significantly damaged. Other homes and outbuildings were also damaged and numerous trees were uprooted and snapped. Damage values are estimated.
Hundreds of trees were either uprooted or snapped when a line of severe thunderstorms passed across southern Halifax County and produced widespread damaging winds. Numerous trees were reported down across Red Bank Road, Virgilina Road, Gill's Mountain Road, Rice School Road, Rip Rap Road, Cemetery Road and Highway 501, among many others. The storm also caused numerous power and telecommunication outages due to downed power lines and telephone poles. At least two home suffered damage, including roofs pealed back by the winds. Several other structures received generally minor damage. The thunderstorm winds also caused damage to tobacco fields in the area.
Thunderstorm winds destroyed a long-standing historical structure and an unoccupied single wide trailer. A few trees were downed by thunderstorm winds as well, with one falling on a vehicle and another causing roof damage to a house. The damage was localized to an area on 7th Street between Carolina Street and Ohio Street.
