An old telephone pole snapped, causing a chain reaction that brought down about two dozen other poles along VA-656 Greenwood Road between VA-657 Senseny Road and VA-655 Sulphur Springs Road. No other tree, branch, or structural damage was noted in the area.
Many trees were reported uprooted around Winchester and the surrounding area. Some roads were blocked, and some trees fell on houses. One tree caused roof and structural damage to an apartment building. Limbs broke out windows. Wrought-iron fencing was damaged. A tree fell on a car. Power was out in many areas affecting several thousand customers. Some in the Apple Pie Ridge area were without power overnight. Winchester airport clocked a gust of 60 mph.
An NWS Storm Survey found a path of tree damage along Stony Hill Road and Route 522. Dozens of large trees were snapped and uprooted in the same direction. A utility company transmission tower was knocked down east of Route 522.
