Gen 3 to 4 inch rainfall was reported in Wilson County, with up to 6 inches north of Stockdale. US87, SH123, and FM1681 were closed, along with most roads in Stockdale area. Several homes and businesses were also flooded, with more than a dozen people rescued by emergency services after being trapped in high water in homes and vehicles.
Widespread damage was reported to vehicles, as well as the roofs, walls and windows of buildings over the northern half of Wilson County. The hail ranged from 1 to 2 inches in diameter. The larger size fell around Stockdale, killing birds that were roosting in trees and piling up in the city streets 6 inches deep. Residents reported that the sound of the hail was almost deafening. Damage to city-owned properties in Stockdale alone was estimated at $100,000. Hail broke windows at one nursing home, with minor injuries to some residents.
The area of extremely heavy rainfall associated with the remains of Tropical Storm Erin continued northwestward into Wilson County. General rain totals over the county varied from 3 to 4 inches. The highest amounts were 8 inches and stretched northwestward from Floresville to the Bexar County line. Roads across the northwest part of the county were closed due to flash flooding, including FM1303, FM536, and FM2579.
