Tropical Storm Harvey moved into Cameron Parish with most sustained storm force winds confined to the coastal areas, however wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph were experienced well inland. These gusty winds combined with saturated soils produced conditions that allowed some trees to fall. One fell on a vehicle traveling along FM 777 near Jasper killing 2 occupants. The driver died instantly while the passenger a couple house later.
Photographs of multiple trees and some damage to a few houses, a couple of sheds, and a couple of fences were submitted to the Jasper County Emergency Management Facebook site and passed along to the NWS. The Jasper County 911 center also reported power lines downed around Buna due to trees falling on them.
A NWS Storm Survey found trees and power lines blown down on County Road 138 and along Highway 190 west of the Jasper County Airport. The Jasper/Newton Electric Coop reported utility worker had to cut through trees to repair power lines in the area.
