Hail broke windows and otherwise damaged cars and houses. The hail also caused extensive crop damage in the area, with soybeans being the worst hit. Corn was also damaged, although to a lesser extent due to its maturity. The amount of the crop damage was undetermined.
Large hail fell over an area roughly 7 miles long and 3 miles wide. The hail covered the ground and roads over much of the area, with some of the hail accumulation still visible 10 hours after the hail ended. The hail caused widespread and severe crop damage, affecting over 13 thousand acres of corn, soybean, and alfalfa crops. Crops in several areas were totally wiped out, while other crops were partially damaged. The hail also caused damage to numerous buildings and vehicles, many of them in Centerville. Some of the larger hailstones caused holes in roofs. In addition, siding was damaged, and there were many broken windows.
Large hail severely damaged corn and soybean crops over a very large area, with the Lincoln County extension office estimating 95,000 acres affected. Some crops were totally stripped, while others were expected to partially recover. The dollar amount of crop damage could not be determined, but the county Farm Service Agency office estimated a yield loss of 25 to 30 percent for corn and soybean crops for the entire county. The hail also broke windows and damaged roofs on some homes. The hail was driven by strong winds.
