On Friday, July 22nd, a 13-year-old girl was swept downstream while swimming in the James River near Frankfort. The search was postponed around 11:30 p.m. Friday due to the dangers of the current and the inability to see in the dark. The girl's body was found around 9:25 a.m. on Saturday.
With the previous snowmelt water along with above normal May rainfall, areas of Spink county remained flooded throughout the month. Snake Creek near Redfield remained above flood stage throughout most of the month before going below flood stage on May 27th. Several roads along with crop and pastureland were flooded.
The March Turtle Creek flooding continued throughout much of April with a short break in the middle of the month when it went below flood stage. The highest stage of 16 feet was reached in late March. The flood stage on Turtle Creek is 7 foot.
