A series of thunderstorms with very heavy rain caused flash flooding in central Monroe County that lasted into the overnight of the 30th. Hardest hit were Chestnuthill and Pocono Townships. The Monroe County Office of Emergency Management urged motorists to stay off the road. In Chestnuthill Township, the Pohopoco Creek flooded near Camp Jaycee. Merwinesburg Road was closed from Pennsylvania State Route 115 to Jonas Road. Ziegler Road was also closed near Jonas Road. In Pocono Township, southbound Pennsylvania State Route 611 along the Pocono Creek and near the intersection with Pennsylvania State Route 715 in Tannersville was flooded. There were mud slides in the area also. Farther south along the same creek, Warner Road (a partial wash-out) and Pennsylvania State Route 611 were also closed because of flooding. In Polk Township, Dotters Corner Road (near Dotters Creek) near Pennsylvania State Route 534 was flooded and closed. Event precipitation totals included 4.63 inches in Pocono Pines, 3.84 inches in Pocono Summit, 2.78 inches in Saylorsburg and 2.71 inches in McMichaels.
Thunderstorms with torrential downpours hit Hamilton Township the hardest in Monroe County as Doppler Radar storm total estimates reached between 6 and 7 inches during the afternoon of the 26th. Multiple roadways were flooded and included Pennsylvania State Route 33 between Syndersville and Interstate 80. The roadway was closed for nearly two hours and reopened at 620 p.m. EDT that evening. Beaver Valley Road between Turkey Hill Road and Haney Road was closed because it was undermined by a flooding creek. The combination of damaging winds, flooding rains and lightning caused about 2.000 Pennsylvania Power and Light and Metropolitan Edison customers to lose power. The Pocono Creek near Brislin Road in Stroud Township crested at 10.99 feet. There is no established flood stage for the creek at that site. An event total of 3.23 inches was measured in Syndersville in Hamilton Township.
Thunderstorms with heavy rain caused poor drainage and small creek flash flooding in south central Monroe County, mainly in Ross and Chestnuthill Townships. Adjusted Doppler Radar storm total estimates averaged 3 to 4 inches in the townships. Event precipitation totals included 3.84 inches in Hamilton Township and 2.71 inches in Blakeslee.
