A thunderstorm downburst with winds estimated at 70 mph caused considerable damage. The section of Bellevue in Huron County was the hardest hit part of the city. Around 150 trees were downed on the northeast side of Bellvue with damage reported on every street. Fifty homes and many cars were damaged in this area. Over two dozen streets were blocked by fallen trees and limbs. A construction trailer was overturned and destroyed. The winds were strong enough to move several parked railroad cars over 200 feet.
A thunderstorm downburst with winds estimated around 100 mph moved east along US Highway 224 in southern Huron County. Many trees were downed in Willard with the first significant damage occurring in New Haven Township just southeast of Willard where a mobile home was destroyed along State Route 61. The damage path continued east along Highway 224 for approximately seven miles. Two mobile homes on State Route 13 just northeast of Greenwich were flipped over and destroyed injuring six people. One of the mobile homes was tossed 150 feet into a ditch. A house was damaged in Greenwich and at least one vehicle was crushed by fallen trees. Over 1000 trees were blown down along the 7 mile damage path and considerable crop damage also occurred. Estimates on the crop damage will not be available until after the fall harvest.
A line of severe thunderstorms moved east across Huron County early in the morning and caused widespread damage and scattered power outages. A 65 mph wind gust was measured near Norwalk at 4:30 a.m. Dozens of trees were downed across the county and at least three power poles were toppled near Bellvue. A home in Norwalk was heavily damaged by a fallen tree. A few homes and vehicles were also damaged in Bellevue.
