A family was attempting to leave their mobile home when a downburst blew their home into the highway on State Road 1003, one-hafl mile north of Highway 42. The man of the house was covered with debris from the mobile home. He died later at Duke Hospital. Wife and daughter were also injured. Over 40 structures were damaged, with mobile homes being blown into each other and trees.
Numerous trees were blown down all throughout the city. Numerous roads were blocked by downed trees and power lines from Wayne Memorial Drive east to Highway 13. A Days Inn Motel on HWY 70 sustained major roof damage. Four people were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital with injuries ranging from a broken leg to scratches.
Damage to a turkey farm, singlewide mobile home, and vehicles due to suspected straight line winds. Significant damage to roofs of 2 turkey houses. Minimal damage to mobile home and vehicles due to debris from the turkey houses.
