A narrowly channeled wind gust estimated at 50 mph knocked over a 71,500 pound empty railroad boxcar. The boxcar was facing upwind between two large buildings with a wide open freight door when the wind knocked it over.
Utility company reported trees blown down on power lines along Campbell Creek Rd in Maggie Valley and on Browning Branch Rd and Springbrook Farm Rd in Waynesville. County comms reported scattered trees blown down throughout the county.
Spotters and public reported a second severe thunderstorm, taking an almost identical track to one that moved through Haywood County an hour earlier, blew down additional trees just north of Maggie Valley, as well as trees and large limbs on the north and east side of Waynesville (including Old Country Rd).
