Severe thunderstorms swept across eastern North Carolina during the early morning hours. Trees were down on one mobile home and two houses in Grifton and a mobile home in Black Jack. Mobile homes were overturned in Ayden. Sixty mph winds were reported by spotters in Washington. Marble-size and golf ball-size hail occurred in Belhaven and Bath. Soft ball-size hail in Swan Quarter punched holes in the roofs of metal buildings.
