A National Weather Service survey team determined that a wet microburst occurred in Ellenville. The strong wind blew down about 30 trees, damaging 2 homes and destroying a car. The estimated cost of the damage was 35 thousand dollars.
***MICROBURST IN LOMONTVILLE*** NWS Survey Team confirmed microburst in Lomontville, in Ulster County. Roughly 80 to 90 mature oak and evergreen trees were reported down with many trees uprooted at this location. A large tree crushed a garage roof and travel trailer. Other building damage by fallen trees also occurred. Microburst was 400 yards wide, and winds were estimated at 80 to 90 mph.
Severe thunderstorms moved across parts of eastern New York ahead of a warm front during the afternoon and early evening hours of July 20th. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and powerlines while torrential rains resulted in urban flooding in some areas. Among the areas hardest hit were Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, and Dutchess Counties. In all some 20,000 customers were left without electricity as a result of the thunderstorms. Lightning was the cause of several fires including a home in Brisben and a church steeple in Watervliet.
