Gusty winds from a severe thunderstorm toppled and snapped trees along the Connecticut River and caused a circus tent to collapse at the Lancaster Fairgrounds. About 100 people were under the tent at the time it collapsed. A 41-year-old man and his 6-year-old daughter were killed in the incident. Another 32 people were reported to have been treated at nearby hospitals. Winds were estimated to have gusted up to 75 mph in the hardest hit area along the Connecticut River where most of the tree damage occurred. No structural damage occurred to any of the permanent buildings at the fairgrounds.
Hundreds of trees in the Pittsburg area were blown over or snapped off including a "swath over a hundred yards wide." Also destroyed were a fence and an above ground pool. One person suffered injuries due to a fallen tree.
Numerous trees reported down in Dalton on Rt 135/142, Blakslee, McGuinty, Union, and Far Away Road. An area of concentrated damage occurred in a rural area of Dalton on Blakslee road. A wet microburst occurred, downing 100s of trees in a concentrated swath of 100 yards wide and a few hundred yards long. No structural damage occurred due to the location of the damage.
