Up to one and three-quarter diameter hail fell in a 16 mile long path from one mile northwest of Box Butte Reservoir to 5 miles east of Alliance. The width of the hail swath was four to five miles wide. The hail severely damaged 11,000 acres of crops in the hail swath. In addition, some vehicles and buildings were damaged.
A group of thunderstorms produced large hail as they moved across Box Butte County. One report was located a mile south of Berea or seven miles northwest of Alliance. On site survey the next morning showed that the hailstorm was only about a mile and a half wide with the area of golf ball-size hail limited to a couple of hundred yards. Several homes in the path of the storm suffered broken windows and some roof damage. In addition, three to four inches of rain was recorded in the area and this led to some local flooding. The wheat crop in this area was reported as "totally destroyed, mowing it down to six inches in height". The other report of large hail came from the city of Alliance.
