Five to six inches of rain fell over Vernon County resulting in flooding of small streams, creeks, and two main stem rivers. A few specific locations that flooded included a section of Highway DD near its intersection with Highway 71, a section of Highway H near its intersection with Highway O, and a section of Highway V one mile north of Stotesbury.
The Marmaton River flooded out of its banks and into numerous low lying areas making county roads in northern Vernon County impassable. Other areas of the county also experienced flash flooding including sections of Highway 54 east of Nevada, sections of Highway B, and sections of Highway 43 south of Deerfield.
Saturated antecedent conditions existed prior to this period of excessive rainfall. Some regional locations experienced record rainfall totals from February and March. One to three inches of rain fell across the county causing widespread flash flooding of low water crossings, county roads, and low lying areas near creeks and rivers. Ultimately, all locations that typically flood during periods of excessive rainfall were flooded.
