The NWS Survey team found evidence consistent with damaging downburst winds from a severe thunderstorm that moved across the northeast portions of Waynesboro. There were numerous reports of damage to trees. The most significant damage was found along Holy Bush Church Road and Toby Landrum Road where numerous trees were uprooted or snapped. One mobile home was destroyed when a large tree fell through the structure. Minor to moderate damage was also noted to other structures.
A swath of straight-line winds was evident via high resolution|Planet satellite imagery that occurred with a line of severe|thunderstorms east of Pleasant Grove and north of Highway 84 near|Van Hoover West Road. An approximately 670-yard-wide swath of|tree damage was evident west of Van Hoover West Road generally in|the 60 to 70mph range. The swath of winds narrowed but became|more intense east of the road with peak wind estimates around|80 to 90mph.
