What the reports say
Written by National Weather Service staff at the time of the event · public domain
A microburst damage area was produced across the northeast quarter of section 30 in Rapid River Township. The downburst initiated across the southwest corner of a farmstead and projected to the east and northeast across the farmyard. A steel pole shed was torn open and demolished with debris impacted and denting several steel grain bins along the east end of the yard. Several pine trees and two power poles in the yard were snapped by the wind. Peak winds were estimated at 95 to 105 mph.
Minnesota DNR aerial photos showed large areas of blowdown timber, stretching along a southwest to northeast diagonal from about 26 miles south of Williams, near the Beltrami County line, to this location southwest of Clementson. Hundreds of pine trees appeared to have been blown down in successive microbursts along the overall downburst path.
Numerous pine and poplar trees were snapped in a southwest to northeast downburst wind pattern near Carp. Minnesota DNR aerial imagery showed successive microburst damage from south-southwest of Carp, through Carp, and continuing toward Clementson.
