A very impressive hail storm occurred in and around Sanford early in the morning on the 14th. A supercell thunderstorm dumped large amounts of mainly small hail that piled up to several feet in spots where water had washed the hail into piles. Many cars at a dealership were damaged. A few stones were as big as ping pong balls.
Hailstones of one to one-and-a-half-inches in diameter were deposited by a thunderstorm moving across southern sections of York County. Affected communities included Berwick, North Berwick, and Ogunquit. Hail accumulations of up to three inches were reported in the Berwick area.
