Eleven large railcar shipping containers were blown off a train on the east bank approach to the Huey P Long Bridge in the Elmwood area of Metairie. The tracks at the location of the damage were approximately 70 feet above the ground.
A line of severe thundestorms produced damaging wind gusts when it moved through Grand Isle. An automated weather station on the east end of Grand Isle recorded a wind gust of 70 knots or 81 mph. Roofs were blown off several houses by the strong wind gusts.
A cluster of thunderstorms moving northeast at 30 mph produced winds greater than 70 mph which destroyed an anemometer, and uprooted a large tree which hit two automobiles causing two minor injuries in Jennings. Finally, the strong winds blew down a wooden fence.
