High winds estimated well over 65 mph caused widespread damage to Junction City and most of the county. Numerous downed trees, tree limbs and power lines occurred. At one time, an estimated 15,000 people were without power in Geary and Riley Counties. Significant damage was also reported at Ft. Riley Military base and Milford Lake where four injuries occurred.
At a residence 5 miles west of Junction City a metal outbuilding was destroyed, and debris was found nearly a quarter of a mile downwind. Closer to Junction City, a gas station lost part of its awning. Trees and power lines were reported down across Junction City resulting in many damaged roofs and cars and widespread power outages.
A trained spotter reported an estimated 70 mph winds out of Geary county. The path that the storm took through the county was determined by radar and damage to cities just south of the Geary/Morris county lines. No damage was reported out of Geary county.
