Flood in Warrick County, Indiana

Major flooding occurred after 7 to 10 inches of rain fell in 36 hours. Many roads were closed, including one major road. The county exhausted its supply of road closed signs. Sand bags were distributed to homeowners and business owners threatened by flooding. A mudslide on Rockport Road exposed a gas line. Floodwaters rushed over the top of a bridge on a seconday road just north of Chandler. A railroad track along U.S. Highway 62 was flooded. An SUV was washed off a secondary road into a ditch. Roadways and culverts were washed out.

Moderate flooding continued along the Ohio River from late February. After cresting in late February at the highest level since March of 1997, the river fell below flood stage by mid-month. A few families were forced from their homes. Numerous roads were closed for days at a time, mostly county roads. Floodwaters crept over the riverbanks along Newburgh's scenic riverfront. Indiana Route 662 and Water Street in Newburgh were affected by high water. In eastern Warrick County, backwater from the Ohio River flooded Caney and Little Pigeon Creeks, flooding a few houses.

Moderate flooding occurred along the Ohio River. At the river gage at Newburgh, the river crested at 50.12 feet on the 28th. Flood stage there is 38 feet. This was the highest flood crest at Newburgh since the flood of March, 1997. Just a few families were forced from their homes. Numerous roads were closed for days at a time, mostly county roads. The banks along Newburgh's scenic riverfront were damaged. Indiana Route 662 and Water Street in Newburgh were affected by high water. In eastern Warrick County, backwater from the Ohio River flooded Caney and Little Pigeon Creeks, flooding a few houses.
