The White County 911 Center observed golf ball-sized hail at the 911 Center located halfway between Cleveland and Helen. The public observed golf ball-sized hail near Sautee. Radar data suggests that quarter and larger-sized hail likely fell in many areas between Helen and Sautee.
The White County Emergency Management Director reported that nickel-sized hail occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 129 and Georgia Highway 75A northwest of Cleveland. In addition, the combination of the hail and estimated wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph caused damage to the windshields of several vehicles in the area. A number of tree limbs were also blown down on the road in the area.
The public observed half-dollar-sized hail east and north of Cleveland. The White County 911 Center reported quarter-sized hail in Cleveland. The public observed quarter-sized hail southeast of Helen. Hail was earlier reported along the White/Lumpkin county line west of Cleveland. Radar data supports hail of penny or larger size likely fell from west of Cleveland along the Lumpkin county line to southeast of Helen near the Habersham county line. The public reported that hail the size of quarters fell for up to 15 minutes in the Sautee area.
