What the reports say
Written by National Weather Service staff at the time of the event · public domain
Large to very large hail was observed by the public and storm spotters across Walton county from Loganville, to Monroe, to Good Hope. Three inch-diameter hail was reported from Loganville to Bold Spring along the Gwinnett county line, while quarter to golf ball-sized hail was observed from Monroe to east of Good Hope. Golf ball-sized hail was also observed around Between.
A CoCoRaHS observer reported quarter-sized hail just south of Loganville near Between in the western part of Walton county. The hail completely covered the ground and because of near freezing temperatures that followed subsequently as a cold front passed through the area, much of the hail remained on the ground overnight and into the next morning. Ground accumulation of hail was observed across a near 7-mile long stretch of road in this area the next morning.
The public observed nickel to quarter-sized hail in the far northern part of the county near Bold Springs, while the public and the Walton County 911 Center observed nickel-sized hail further south in Monroe and south-southeastward toward the east side of Social Circle.
