What the reports say

The Coweta County 911 Center and the Newnan Times Herald reported that lightning struck six structures within the county. A home was struck on Mike Powers Road, causing moderate damage to the bedrooms, and Pegasus Trace in Thomas Crossroads, causing just minor damage. A barn on Roy Road off Georgia Highway 16 in the Raymond community was destroyed as a result of a lightning-related fire.
The Times Herald of Newnan reported that lightning struck a tree approximately 50 feet from a home on Tabby Lynch Road. The lightning travelled underground on a gas line and ignited the home on fire. The home was declared a total loss. It took a crew of 12 firefighters 1 1/2 hours to put out the fire. No one was home at the time of the incident.
The Times Herald of Newnan reported that lightning struck and set on fire a home on Rockhouse Road. While at first it was believed to be only a minor fire, the lightning apparently ignited a natural gas line in the home. Consequently, the home was a total loss.
