The public reported wind damage at the Athens Rifle Club on Paradise Valley Road north of Athens. Shingles and roofing material were removed from the clubhouse and the skeet houses. These roofing materials were embedded in the metal roof of a carport that was blown over. A section of safety fencing 10 feet high and 40 feet long that was set in concrete was blown down and outdoor furniture was blown over 100 yards and destroyed. Several shooting stations were destroyed and multiple trees were blown down.
The Clarke County Emergency Manager and University of Georgia officials reported trees blown down and damage to the ecology building around the campus of the University of Georgia and the city of Athens, stretching east to Winterville around the city park.
The public reported that thunderstorm winds had caused extensive damage to trees and power lines in the Green Acre subdivision just southeast of Athens. Numerous trees and power lines were down. Damage was also reported at a Kroger store where the building's sign was damaged and several shopping carts were blown onto cars parked in the parking lot, causing damage to the vehicles. At least 600 residents in the county were left without power during the thunderstorm.
