Several streets were flooded and closed during a period of heavy rainfall, including South Blvd, 4th Street, 5th Street, and North Railroad Ave. There was minor structural flooding as well in Chipley. The water receded about an hour after the rain ended.
The Washington county 911 call center reported that 4 roads were closed around the Chipley area due to flash flooding. Very heavy rainfall rates up to 4 inches per hour were reported in nearby in neighboring Holmes county, and widespread rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches occurred in just a few hours.
Water was flowing across the road the intersection of Highway 280 and Yates Settlement Road. The water was deep enough for Public Works to place barricades across the road and across other rural roads near this area. A farmer's rain gauge measured 9 inches of rain in about 2.5 hours in this area, and radar estimated similar amounts.
